Removal

  1. Drain the cooling system Refer to Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding .
  1. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to Section 303-12 .
  1. NOTICE: Cover the accessory drive belts to prevent coolant contamination of the belts.

    Completely cover the accessory drive belts with waterproof plastic.
  1. Release the clamp and disconnect the thermostat housing-to-degas bottle from the thermostat housing.
  1. Release the clamp and disconnect the lower radiator hose from the thermostat housing.
  1. Release the clamp and disconnect the coolant return hose from the thermostat housing.
  1. Release the clamp and disconnect the upper radiator hose from the thermostat housing.
  1. Remove the 4 bolts and the thermostat housing.

Installation

  1. Install 2 new O-ring seals and lubricate them with clean engine coolant.
  1. Position the thermostat housing and install the bolts finger tight.
  1. Tighten the 4 thermostat housing bolts in the sequence shown in 2 stages.
  1. Connect the upper radiator hose to the thermostat housing and position the clamp.
  1. Connect the coolant return hose to the thermostat housing and position the clamp.
  1. Connect the lower radiator hose to the thermostat housing and position the clamp.
  1. Connect the thermostat housing-to-degas bottle to the thermostat housing and position the clamp.
  1. Remove the plastic covering the accessory drive belts.
  1. Install the air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to Section 303-12 .
  1. Fill and bleed the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding .
