Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S)

Removal and Installation

All sensors

With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to Section 100-02 .

RH HO2S on 5.0L engine with automatic transmission

Disconnect the transmission vehicle harness connector by twisting the outer shell and pulling back on the connector.
- Detach the wiring harness retainer.

Detach the 2 wiring harness retainers.

RH HO2S on 5.0L engine with manual transmission

Disconnect the skip shift solenoid electrical connector.

Detach the 2 wiring harness retainers.

RH HO2S on 5.0L and 5.8L engines

Remove the battery tray. Refer to Section 414-01 .

RH HO2S on 5.0L engine

Pull the wiring harness up toward the rear of the engine to access the HO2S electrical connector.

All sensors

Detach the pin type retainer and disconnect the HO2S electrical connector.

NOTE: If necessary, lubricate the HO2S threads with penetrating and lock lubricant to aid in removal.
Using a crowfoot wrench, remove the HO2S .
- Calculate the correct torque wrench setting for the following torque. Refer to the Torque Wrench Adapter Formulas in the Appendix.
- To install, use a crowfoot wrench, tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Apply a light coat of anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the HO2S before installing.
