Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S)

Removal and Installation

All sensors

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to Section 100-02 .

RH HO2S on 5.0L engine with automatic transmission

  1. Disconnect the transmission vehicle harness connector by twisting the outer shell and pulling back on the connector.
  1. Detach the 2 wiring harness retainers.

RH HO2S on 5.0L engine with manual transmission

  1. Disconnect the skip shift solenoid electrical connector.
  1. Detach the 2 wiring harness retainers.

RH HO2S on 5.0L and 5.8L engines

  1. Remove the battery tray. Refer to Section 414-01 .

RH HO2S on 5.0L engine

  1. Pull the wiring harness up toward the rear of the engine to access the HO2S electrical connector.

All sensors

  1. Detach the pin type retainer and disconnect the HO2S electrical connector.
  1. NOTE: If necessary, lubricate the HO2S threads with penetrating and lock lubricant to aid in removal.

    Using a crowfoot wrench, remove the HO2S .
  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
