Transmission Fluid Cooler Flow Test


Special Tool(s)
Disconnect Tool, Transmission Cooler Line

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to Section 100-02 .
  1. Remove the cooler tube secondary latch.
  1. Using the Transmission Cooler Line Disconnect Tool, disconnect the cooler tube from the transmission cooler tube.
  1. NOTE: Before removing the fill plug, clean the area around the fill plug.

    Remove the fill plug.
  1. Connect one end of a 9.25 mm (0.3750 in) inner diameter x 1,500 mm (60 in) long hose to the fluid cooler return tube and insert the other end into the fluid fill hole in the transmission case.
  1. Start the engine and run it at idle with the transmission in NEUTRAL.
  1. NOTE: The fluid flow must be steady (without air bubbles) to make sure of an accurate reading.

    Remove the end of the hose from the fluid fill hole in the transmission case and place it into a measuring container for 15 seconds make sure that a vigorous fluid flow is present. After 15 seconds, insert the end of the hose back into the fluid fill hole in the transmission case.
  1. Turn the engine off.
  1. Connect the cooler tube to the transmission cooler tube.
  1. Install the cooler tube secondary latch.
  1. Fill the transmission to the correct fluid level. Refer to Section 308-03B .
