Removal and Installation

NOTE: The heater core and evaporator core are not individually serviced. They are serviced only with the heater core and evaporator core housing.

NOTE: If a heater core leak is suspected, the heater core must be leak tested before it is removed from the vehicle.

5.8L (4V) vehicles

  1. Release the fuel system pressure. For additional information, refer to Section 310-00 .

All vehicles

  1. Recover the refrigerant. For additional information, refer to Section 412-00 .
  1. Drain the engine coolant. For additional information, refer to Section 303-03A .
  1. Remove the instrument panel. For additional information, refer to Section 501-12 .

5.8L (4V) vehicles

  1. Remove the supercharger. For additional information, refer to Section 303-12 .
  1. Disconnect the heater hose fittings at the rear of the RH cylinder head and position the heater hoses aside.

All vehicles

  1. Disconnect the heater core inlet and outlet hoses at the heater core.
  1. Remove the Thermostatic Expansion Valve (TXV) fitting nut and disconnect the fitting.
  1. Remove the 2 exterior heater core and evaporator core housing nuts at the dash panel.
  1. Detach the antenna cable retainers from the heater core and evaporator core housing.
  1. Remove the interior heater core and evaporator core housing nut.
  1. Remove the heater core and evaporator core housing.
  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  1. Fill the engine cooling system. For additional information, refer to Section 303-03A .
  1. Evacuate, leak test and charge the refrigerant system. For additional information, refer to Section 412-00 .
