Removal and Installation
NOTE:
The heater core and evaporator core are not individually serviced. They are serviced only with the heater core and evaporator core housing.
NOTE:
If a heater core leak is suspected, the heater core must be leak tested before it is removed from the vehicle.
5.8L (4V) vehicles
- Release the fuel system pressure. For additional information, refer to
Section 310-00
.
All vehicles
- Recover the refrigerant. For additional information, refer to
Section 412-00
.
- Drain the engine coolant. For additional information, refer to
Section 303-03A
.
- Remove the instrument panel. For additional information, refer to
Section 501-12
.
5.8L (4V) vehicles
- Remove the supercharger. For additional information, refer to
Section 303-12
.
- Disconnect the heater hose fittings at the rear of the RH cylinder head and position the heater hoses aside.
All vehicles
- Disconnect the heater core inlet and outlet hoses at the heater core.
- Remove the Thermostatic Expansion Valve (TXV) fitting nut and disconnect the fitting.
- Discard the gasket seals.
- To install, tighten to 15 Nm (133 lb-in).
- Remove the 2 exterior heater core and evaporator core housing nuts at the dash panel.
- To install, tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
- Detach the antenna cable retainers from the heater core and evaporator core housing.
- Remove the interior heater core and evaporator core housing nut.
- To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
- Remove the heater core and evaporator core housing.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Install new gasket seals.
- Add the correct amount of clean PAG oil to the refrigerant system. For additional information, refer to the Refrigerant Oil Adding procedure in
Section 412-00
.
- Fill the engine cooling system. For additional information, refer to
Section 303-03A
.
- Evacuate, leak test and charge the refrigerant system. For additional information, refer to
Section 412-00
.
