REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Battery Cables — 3.7L

NOTE: Automatic transmission shown, manual transmission similar. Some items have been removed for clarity.

All vehicles

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Section 100-02 .
  1. Disconnect the battery. For additional information, refer to Battery Disconnect in this section.
  1. Open the Battery Junction Box (BJB) cover, remove the nut and position the BJB terminal aside.
  1. Remove the bolts and position the battery ground cable body terminals aside.
  1. Remove the battery cable terminal nut from the terminal and position the battery cable terminal aside.
  1. Disconnect the engine control harness connector and the PCM harness connector.
  1. Detach the battery cable harness locators from the RH strut tower and fender area.
  1. Remove the starter solenoid terminal cover.
  1. Remove the nut and position the starter solenoid positive cable terminal aside.
  1. Remove the nut and position the starter solenoid wire terminal aside.
  1. Remove the nut and position the battery cable harness bracket-to-engine aside.
  1. Disconnect the RH and LH Catalyst Monitor Sensor (CMS) connectors.

Automatic transmission

  1. Disconnect the transmission vehicle harness connector

Manual transmission

  1. Disconnect the reverse switch connector from the transmission.
  1. Disconnect the Output Shaft Speed (OSS) sensor connector from the transmission.

All vehicles

  1. Detach the battery cable harness locators from the transmission.
  1. Remove the bolt from the rear of the RH cylinder head and position the battery ground cable-to-head terminal aside.
  1. Position aside the generator B+ terminal cover, remove the nut and position the generator B+ terminal aside.
  1. Disconnect the generator connector.
  1. Remove the nut and position the battery cable harness-to-valve cover bracket aside.
  1. Detach the battery cable harness locator at the valve cover.
  1. Disconnect the A/C compressor connector.
  1. Detach the battery cable harness locator at the A/C compressor.
  1. Disconnect the Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS) connector.
  1. Detach the battery cable harness locators from the EPAS .
  1. Remove the battery cables.
  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
